i looked for this for a long time. i have no idea how i missed it for this long, but it's a notebook that lovecraft jotted down story ideas in. lovecraft jotted down his story ideas in a notebook! it was called his "commonplace book"

most of them are what you'd imagine. stuff like "guy has bad dream, wakes up, it's real." but occasionally there are some winners
